Pond Construction and Repair for Homes, Farms, and Ranches Across Central Arkansas

A pond gets built once and owned for decades, and the difference between the two experiences is decided in the first week of digging. Dirt Work Innovations builds new ponds and repairs failing ones for homes, farms, and ranches, working out of Heber Springs and covering Cleburne, Van Buren, White, and Faulkner County.

What we do

Types of Pond Work We Get Called For

Some people want a pond that is not there yet. Others have a pond that is quietly leaving. These are the jobs we build most.

New Pond Construction

  • Recreational and fish ponds for homes and acreage
  • Dug where the ground and the watershed both agree
  • Dams built up in compacted lifts, with the spillway in the plan

Farm and Stock Ponds

  • Water for cattle and livestock, placed where they need it
  • Sized to the herd and the ground that feeds the pond
  • Built to stay usable through dry Arkansas summers

Pond Repair and Leak Sealing

  • Leaking ponds investigated to find the cause
  • Sealing and reworking so the water level finally stays
  • Dams repaired before a small failure becomes the whole dam

Pond Renovation and Restoration

  • Old ponds cleared of muck and dug back to depth
  • Overgrown banks and choked inlets reopened
  • Family ponds brought back instead of abandoned

Pond Construction That Fits the Rest of Your Land

On a working farm or a future home site, pond construction affects more than the spot being dug. Access for equipment, excavated soil, and surrounding grades all have to fit the rest of the property. When a pond is part of a larger site prep project, we coordinate the work before the road, pad, or finished yard gets in the way.

  • Access before the property is finished. Heavy equipment can reach the pond site while routes are still open, avoiding unnecessary rework later.

  • A plan for the excavated dirt. We account for where material will go and whether suitable soil can be reused on the property.

  • Room for what comes next. Pond placement takes nearby building areas, access roads, and working acreage into consideration.

How We Build New Ponds and Diagnose Repairs

  1. 1

    The Ground Gets Read First

Soil and clay get evaluated first because most land here has both clay and rock. Where we dig follows what the ground can hold, before it follows the view.

  2. 2

    Sized to the Watershed

A pond drinks from the land above it. We match the pond to the runoff that will actually feed it, so it fills and stays filled.

  3. 3

    Dams Treated as Structures

The dam is the part that can fail. It goes up in compacted lifts with a planned spillway, because water leaving over the top of a dam is how dams end.

  4. 4

    Repairs Start With Why

A leaking pond has a reason. We find it before we fix anything, because sealing a pond without a diagnosis is how you pay for the same repair twice.

What a Failing Pond Costs Later

A pond problem never stays the same size. It compounds.

A seeping pond never announces itself.

It just sits lower every month, and every foot of water it loses is water the next dry summer will not give back.

A dam without a real spillway is betting against the weather.

One storm that overtops it can cut through in a night, and rebuilding a dam costs multiples of building it right.

Silt never stops arriving.

The pond gets shallower and warmer year over year, the fish and the depth go together, and the job grows the longer it waits.

FAQ

Common Questions We Get About Ponds

What landowners ask before the digging starts and after the leaking starts.

How much does it cost to build a pond in Arkansas?

The ground decides most of it. How big and how deep you want the water, what the soil is made of where you want it, how much dam the site requires, and how far the dirt has to move all set the number, and two ponds of the same size on different properties can be very different jobs. Anyone quoting a pond without walking the land is guessing with your money. We read the site first and put the real number in a written, itemized estimate.

Why does my pond leak, and can it be fixed?

Usually one of three reasons: the pond was dug in ground that never had enough clay to seal, the dam was built loose or has developed a path through it, or something punched through the bottom over the years. Most of the time it can be fixed, and the fix depends entirely on which one it is, which is why we diagnose before we quote. Sealing, dam rework, and rebuilding the basin are different jobs at different prices, and you should only pay for the one your pond actually needs.

Do you build farm and stock ponds?

Yes, and they are their own kind of job. A stock pond has to sit where the cattle actually range, hold water through an Arkansas August, and survive hooves working the banks. We place farm ponds off the runoff the land already produces, build the dam to structure, and shape access so livestock can water without turning the whole bank to mud.

Do you repair pond dams?

Yes. Dams fail from the inside out, so the visible symptoms, a wet spot on the back slope, a low spot on the crest, water moving where it should be still, are usually late notices. We assess what the dam has been doing, then rework it in compacted lifts and put the spillway right if it never was. If your dam is showing any of those signs, sooner is genuinely cheaper.
